The Government of Kiribati has declared the extension of its = border closures due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The Government of Kiribati has advised that current border cl=
osures will be extended until the end of August while preparatory measures =
are undertaken in Kiribati to ensure health and public safety against the C=
OVID-19 pandemic. During the extension of the border closures, Kiribati wil=
l continue to work on building its national capacity in order to withstand =
the pressures brought on by the
pandemic.
Given this ongoing closure of borders, stranded nationals abr= oad will continue to receive Government's financial assistance until additi= onal notice is made following the review of border closure at the end of Au= gust 2020. This assistance is implemented to ensure I-Kiribati nationals st= randed overseas are supported during this unfortunate situation.
Furthermore, the provision of medical supplies and cargoes wi= ll continue during this state of border closure to ensure necessary support= to strengthen the national health system and to support the needs of the p= eople, in accordance to national safety procedures and protocols establishe= d to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The Government hereby appeals to the general public and our p= artners for their continued cooperation and understanding as work progresse= s to safeguard the health of all.
