1. If there are regulations or special requirements lai= d down by the competent authorities prohibiting lateral berthing near a vessel (for instance, because of the nature of its cargo) that vessel shall carr= y on deck, in the longitudinal axis:
A square board with a triangle below.
Both faces of the square board shall be white with a red= border, and have a red diagonal from the top left to the bottom right with= the letter =E2=80=98P=E2=80=99 in black in the centre.
Both faces of the triangle shall be white and show in bl= ack figures the distance in metres over which berthing is prohibited.
2. By night, the boards shall be illuminated so as to be clea= rly visible on both sides of the vessel.
3. This article shall not apply to the vessels, pushed convoys or= side-by-side = formations referred to in article 3.21.
