The 9th session was organized in conjunction with the 8th session of the TF on VC

Main points of discussion:

Item 1:

Provisional agenda adopted without modifications

Item 2:

The document under preparation by the Task Force on Vehicular Communication required further refinements. It was agreed that a small drafting group would finalize the draft within the next weeks and that the TF on VC and the IWG on ITS would convene in the first week of October (tbc.)

Item 4:

The group recalled the discussion at the June 2024 session of WP.29 regarding AI.
The group reflected on WP.29 needs. Some experts highlighted the value of exchange with industry on the impact of AI on the automotive industry and where this is leading to. Other experts noted that specific issued might already require discussion at WP.29 at its GRs. Input was provided on the importance of including items such as non physical harm in "safety" and more generally of reflecting on societal impact, personal data, machine bias, accessibility. Practical questions related to the auditing of systems including AI were raised to provide evaluation criteria to determine what "good enough" means for AI.
The group discussed the future topics that could be addressed by the IWG on ITS. Keeping abreast of the developments within other UNECE WPs remains of interest. Industry mentioned the importance of continuing addressing "communication".
