Markku Markkula was appointed as the deputy director general of National land Survey (Maanmittauslaitos) in Finland in Augusti 2008, and before this appointment Markku was working for Land Court in Helsinki region dealing with land registration and solving juridical cases as a judge in local court.

      He has also been involved with international matters related to land administration. Markku has attended several international conferences and assemblies but has not had any leading positions or board memberships.

     Markku was born in 25th of Augusti 1958 in Helsinki where he still has his residence. He has got his law degree from University of Helsinki in September 1994. Prior to law degree he has studied in Technical University of Helsinki and got his master of science degree as land surveyor (engineer with diploma) in January 1982. Markku has worked with cadastral surveys several years in western and southern Finland. Legislation regarding cadastral issues and land registration are his special expertise. Cooperation with ministry of agriculture and forest and with parliament of Finland is an important part of his work. Giving pieces of advice to land surveyors regarding legal issues and processes belongs to his daily tasks. As hobbies Markku likes cross-country skiing and jogging. Almost all weekends in the summertime Markku spends at his summer cottage with sauna at a small lake about 60 miles to the west from Helsinki. Besides travelling watching British professional football games is one his greatest interests during autumn, winter and spring weekends.
