As of June 1, 2022, unvaccinated travellers will require a NEGATIVE pre-flight test within three (3) days prior to arrival here on the island.

As of May 25, 2022, fully vaccinated travellers to Barbados will no longer have to take a COVID-19 test to enter the country.

Masks will only be mandatory indoors and on public transportation. Outdoors, masks are optional.


Guidelines For Unvaccinated Travellers


Summary- Unvaccinated Travellers

  • Take and return a NEGATIVE result on a Standard PCR, Rapid Antigen test or Rapid COVID-19 PCR test done within 3 days prior to arrival in Barbados.
  • Download BIMSafe App
  • Complete your travel documents via travelform.gov.bb and the BIMSafe App.
  • Take a Rapid Antigen test on arrival at the Airport in Barbados and await results.
  • Upon the return of a NEGATIVE test result and clearance by Ministry of Health & Wellness, enjoy Barbados safely. The Ministry of Health and Wellness reserves the right to require testing of any traveller to the island regardless of documentation presented or any other requirement, obligation or condition required for entry into Barbados.
  • Definition Of Unvaccinated Travellers - A traveller will be considered to be unvaccinated when they are :
    A person who has not been vaccinated at all and therefore has no evidence of such.
    A person who claims to have been vaccinated but has either produced no valid evidence of vaccination or the evidence produced cannot be verified.
    A person who has been vaccinated using a vaccine not on the Barbados list of approved vaccines.
    A person who has only received one dose of a two-dose regimen.
    A person who has completed the full regimen of an approved vaccine, but less than 14 days prior to arrival.
  • Persons with with one vaccine dose (of a 2 dose regime) and a history of COVID, will NOT be considered fully vaccinated and therefore will be required to follow the protocols of an unvaccinated traveller.
  • Take Your Test Before Arrival. Persons who are unvaccinated must travel with a valid negative Standard PCR, Rapid Antigen test or Rapid COVID-19 PCR test taken 3 days prior to arrival.
  • Accepted tests include tests which were taken at an accredited or recognized laboratory by a healthcare provider via any of the below: nasopharyngeal sample, oropharyngeal sample, nasal sample, anterior nares sample, mid-turbinate sample LAMP tests, self-administered tests or home kits and tests using saliva samples will NOT be accepted.

Accepted tests include those that were taken at an accredited or recognized laboratory by a healthcare provider via any of the below:

  • Nasopharyngeal sample, oropharyngeal sample, nasal sample, anterior nares sample and mid-turbinate sample.
  • Proof of above mentioned negative Rapid Antigen test or Rapid Covid-19 PCR test taken 1 day prior to arrival in Barbados OR a RT-PCR Covid-19 test taken within 3 days prior to arrival
  • Rapid Antigen tests

Not Accepted COVID-19 PCR Tests

Not accepted tests include:

  • Shallow nasal swab samples
  • Saliva samples
  • Self-administered swabs and self-administered pharmacy tests are not accepted
  • Home kits

Getting Tested

Unvaccinated travellers are permitted to travel to Barbados with a valid negative Rapid Antigen test OR Rapid COVID-19 PCR test result done within 1 day prior to arrival in Barbados OR a negative RT-PCR COVID-19 test result done within 3 days prior to arrival.  Unvaccinated travellers are required to take a Rapid Antigen test on arrival at the Airport in Barbados and await results. Upon the return of a NEGATIVE test result and clearance by the Ministry of Health & Wellness, you may then enjoy Barbados safely

Guidelines For Fully Vaccinated Travellers

No testing is required for Fully Vaccinated Travellers. Secure your valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate (approved vaccines only).

Summary- Fully Vaccinated Travellers

  • Travellers will be considered to be fully vaccinated if: They have completed a full regimen of vaccines for any of the Ministry of Health and Wellness approved COVID-19 vaccinations, for 14 days or more prior to travel to Barbados*.
  • Travellers who have mixed vaccine regimens listed by the of Ministry of Health and Wellness approved vaccines will be considered fully vaccinated. E.g. (1st dose of one brand followed by 2nd dose of another which is not a one-dose regimen).
  • Complete online travel form and ensure to travel with all relevant COVID-19 certificates and other border entry documentation.
  • Complete your online Immigration/Customs form at least 72 hours prior to travel. The form is also available at travelform.gov.bb

Note: Additional vaccines may be added by Barbados Government, Ministry of Health and Wellness (MHW) guided by the WHO emergency listing approval.

On Arrival

  • Pre-submission for approval of vaccine certificates is preferred. Additionally, proof of vaccination (in English), in the form of a vaccine certificate, is required. Validation of certificates at point of entry will include one of the following:
    • Proof of issuance from a National Public Health Organisation.
    • Proof of documented vaccination issued by a hospital or medical centre.
    • Use of an independent validation system, such as IATA Travel Pass, The Digital Green Certificate or the BIMSafe app.
  • Fully vaccinated travellers are free to use the transportation of their choice for departure from the airport.
  • If your vaccination certificate is not validated on arrival, then the protocols of an unvaccinated traveller will apply.

  • Once travellers have had their vaccination certificate validated and received clearance from Ministry of Health officials, they are free to enjoy the island.

In-transit passengers exiting the airport will be considered to be fully vaccinated if:

  • They have completed a full regimen of vaccines for any of the Ministry of Health and Wellness approved COVID-19 vaccinations, for 14 days or more prior to travel to Barbados*.

Effective May 30, 2021

The travel history of a fully vaccinated traveller, where they have travelled from or transited through countries of special consideration within the 21 day period immediately prior to arrival, will determine which protocols apply. Countries of special consideration are those where the prevalence of certain variants of COVID-19 are deemed of particular concern to Barbados Public Health Officials.

Countries of Special Consideration

  • South Africa
  • Brazil
  • India


Please be informed that the visa entry requirements have been re-imposed with immediate effect for nationals of India, Brazil and South Africa seeking to travel to Barbados.

In this regard, persons seeking to travel to Barbados with passports from these countries are required to apply for entry visas (single, multiple) prior to arrival.

Persons traveling from or transiting through these jurisdiction within the last 21 days shall:

  • Come to Barbados with a valid Nasopharyngeal or Oropharyngeal COVID-PCR Test
  • Have a repeated PCR Test on arrival at the Grantley Adams International Airport
  • 7 days quarantine (no exceptions)
  • Test on day 8 to exit
  • There will be no distinction between the vaccinated and un-vaccinated passengers traveling from the aforementioned countries.

All persons will be required to quarantine one of the following specially identified properties for the full quarantine period at the expense of the traveler.

March 19, 2020:  A mandatory quarantine mandate will take effect from Sunday, March 22nd, 2020 and will remain in effect until further notice. The Ministry of Health and Wellness requires that all persons coming to Barbados from these countries/ territories be quarantined for a period of fourteen (14) days from the time of last exposure. The protocols established by the Ministry of Health and Wellness to contain the virus for visitors arriving from all other countries, remain in effect.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness may be addressed to the hotline at 536-4500 (operating 24 hours daily).
